2.384 CHECK-UPS TO CHILDREN WERE MADE BY THE MOBILE MEDICAL UNIT "IPPOKRATES" OF THE VOLUNTEER ORGANISATION "SMILE OF THE CHILD" AT THE MUNICIPALITY OF PAGGAIO
The volunteer organization "The Smile of the Child" in the framework of the INTERREG IV project "Integrated Territorial Synergies for Children Health and Protection"/INTERSYC and in cooperation with the Public Benefit Organisation of the city of Kavala – Dimofeleia and the Public Benefit Organisation of the Municipality of Paggaio implemented an activity of preventive medicine for the children of the Municipality of Paggaio, from 26 March to 11 April 2014.
Preventive medicine to children is a concerted effort of the Volunteer Organisation "The Smile of the Child" that has as its aim to record clinical findings in order to refer children to the relevant medical and social departments of the Organization for more specialized care and support.
During a single visit to the mobile Medical Unit "IPPOKRATES" and the mobile ophthalmologic unit, the children had the opportunity to undergo a preventive medical, dental, and ophthalmologic check-up. The mobile units are staffed by specialist doctors and scientific and support crew from the Volunteer Organisation "The Smile of the Child". After completing their medical and dental check-ups, the children receive an individual log of preventive medicine signed and stamped by the responsible doctor in order for the legal guardians to take note of possible health issues and instructions on ways to confront them.
In the first 13 days of implementation of this activity 2.384 check-ups were made to primary school children in the Municipality of Paggaio.
The Mobile Units operated in the following areas:
• Eleftheroupoli (26-28 March) in total 161 children were checked
• Nikisiani (31 March -2 April) in total 143 children were checked
• Nea Peramos (3-4 April) in total 119 children were checked
• Melissokomeio (7-8 April) in total 103 children were checked
• Podohori (9 April) in total 40 children were checked
• Ofrynio (10-11 April) in total 84 children were checked
More specifically, during these 13 days, the following check-ups took place:
• 508 check-ups of children by pediatricians
• 629 check-ups of children by dentists
• 629 check-ups of children by ophthalmologists
• 618 check-ups of children by otolaryngologists
After the Easter Holidays, the activity of preventive medicine will continue in the following areas:
From 28 April to 3 June 2014 at the central square of the city of Kavala (south side)
From 4 to 11 June 2014 in Filippoi at the parking lot of the Archeological Museum
From 12 to 13 June 2014 in N. Karvali, in front of the primary school.
